Interview Tips

Gathering Your Thoughts:
  • Why are you interested in a career in this industry, and what do you know about it?
  • What do you know about the company/culture? What appeals to you about this?
  • Think about your strengths and weakness and be prepared to discuss both.
  • What motivates you?
  • How would your peers describe you?
  • How would a supervisor or manager in a previous job describe you?
  • Is there a reason you feel that you are better suited to a particular division/department as opposed to another?
  • What skills have you acquired, either through your work experience or extracurricular activities that may be appropriate to the job for which you are applying? For example, leadership skills, team player, communication skills. Be prepared to articulate them.
  • Be prepared to discuss your education and your motivation for choosing certain subjects.
  • Every answer should be well thought out and presented in a logical manner.
  • The interview process is a great opportunity to get information on the company, the industry etc. Make sure you have some probing questions prepared to ask the interviewer.
Things to Read:
  • Have you looked at the various opportunities advertised on the company’s website?
  • Have you looked at the company annual report and corporate brochure?
  • Have you looked at recent company press cuttings?
  • Who are their competitors?
  • How are they viewed in the market place?
  • Are they part of a wider group - i.e. are there any subsidiaries?
